If you have found a pet check with your veterinarian, as they may allow you to bring the animal in to be scanned for a microchip.
If the pet is wearing a Charlotte County rabies tag, you may contact our department at 941.833.5690, select option 1 or visit http://www.petdata.com/ to enter and search the tag number to obtain basic pet owner contact information.
Where was my pet taken?
Animal Control does not own or operate an animal holding facility. We contract the services of the Animal Welfare League, 3519 Drance Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33982. All impounded domestic animals are transported to Animal Welfare League, which can be contact at 941.625.6720.
How much to retrieve my pet from the shelter?
Bills vary from animal to animal depending on the circumstances. The following fee schedule is considered when calculating bills:
1st Offense Impoundment Fee - if Animal Control picks up | $40.00 |
2nd Offense Impoundment Fee - if Animal Control picks up | $80.00 |
3rd Offense Impoundment Fee - if Animal Control picks up | $100.00 |
Daily Boarding Rate | $15.00 per day |
Daily Boarding Rate for Quarantines (bite cases) | $18.00 per day |
Rabies Vaccination Fee | $15.00 |
License Fee for Altered Animal | $17.00 |
License Fee for Unaltered Animal (under 12 months) | $17.00 |
License Fee for Unaltered Animal (over 12 months) | $35.00 |
License and vaccination fees do not apply if your animal is already current. Proof of current rabies and county license will need to be provided at time of pick.
Animal Control is required by law to hold impounded animals for five (5) days from the time they are picked up. After the five day period has ended, if the animal is not claimed by an owner, the animal becomes the property of the Animal Welfare League.
